Water leaks are a hazard that you should never ignore. They can cause serious structural damage if you fail to fix them immediately. Unfortunately, most leaks aren't visible because the plumbing pipes are hidden in the walls or floor. So, how do you spot leaks? You can start by looking for the following signs.

Utility Bills Spikes

By now, you already know the amount of water your household uses every month. This amount might increase or decrease a bit. However, a huge increase could be a sign of a leaky pipe. Otherwise, how would you explain a sudden spike in your water bill, yet your water consumption hasn't changed? There is a high possibility that your water lines are leaking water, but you can't tell. You may have to call a plumber to inspect your plumbing pipes as it's the only way to spot hidden leaks.

Mold

Mold and mildew on the walls could also mean you have water leaking from the pipes. Sadly, mold and mildew take time to form, meaning the water could have been leaking for a long time. In that case, you should hire plumber services to correct the issue before the mold spreads to other parts.

Low Water Pressure

Have you noticed a drop in water pressure lately? Well, water pressure can reduce due to many issues. Maybe your water company is responsible, or your fixtures have an issue. However, if it turns out that everything is working well, the drop in water pressure can be attributed to a leaking pipe. Maybe a huge leak from your main water line is causing low water pressure. If you can't explain the low water pressure in your home, ask a plumber to check out what could be the cause.

Termites

Termites are notorious for thriving in damp environments. So, If you notice termite activity on your walls, it's a sign that the walls are damp. Termites prefer to build mud tubes on wet wood. That said, it's possible that your plumbing lines are leaking, making the wall wet. So, don't ignore the issue, as it could mean your plumbing has a problem.

Flooded Basement

A flooded basement is another clear sign that one of your pipes is leaking heavily. There is no reason for your basement to flood unless there is heavy rainfall in your area. So, if you find your basement flooded with water, it clearly shows you have a broken pipe. You should therefore get the issue fixed before the water damages your electrical boxes.
